Marc, don't forget that the launch also has the 4 drive ports that you can use to power 12volt devices and is the only unit with a salinity port other than the x10
dont you have another tank that you havent set up yet? i seem to remember another one....and when is the anemone cube coming back?
Yes and yes. This one fell into my lap last Sunday and since the livestock needed to be cared for, I had to get it situated.
How many gallons was this tank?
Hey Mark, thanks for sharing and for your time, much appreciated sir.
Hey, I appreciate actually seeing you break down a tank in real time. My husband and I are hoping to move in the next year or so, which means my tank will be moving with us. This gives me some assurance that I can do it!
Let me know if you have any questions.
DI water at pH of 9 means something is contaminating it. Pure water has zero buffering capacity so it’s very easy to change it’s pH with very little contamination.
Great conversation, thank you for doing this every week
@matc you shows are great. BUT when have a guest, please be careful you Don't talk over them and give them enough air time to fully express their opinions. Please rewatch this stream with Rich, you will notice that he had a lot that he couldn't communicate
Agreed, usually I’m better about that. Oops!
@marc BTW, I have been reefing now for 14 years now. Following you and you content on this amazing Channel is what got me to where I am now. Thanks Man.
pH of DI water is silly. How do you measure hydrogen ions in water that has been de-ionized?
You should ask Fritz to send you some red boxes instead of blue next time - maybe you can stop having to buffer your new saltwater.
I would like to see the test kits we use...used at a reef in the ocean. Ph, phosphates, etc...
Hope the community made it through transport ok. :)
Yup, all is well. Got it set up in my living room last night.
So y did you get this tank?
You made it 50 seconds longer than me!
If you want to see high pH check out Chummingham’s reef
So air through your skimmer does oxygenate your system!?
Farley would be a great addition to your stream as well what do you think Marc I do consider him a guru not that bulk reef supply guy that says he is a guru not one bit anyhow sidetracked sorry Farley yes good addition to guest speak on your stream ✌️
rich all points spot on !
or crank the ac and open doors !
New coral frag right on top of the dead coral will fix that right up 😂
always been between 8.1 to 8.3 and never worried about it at all !! It goes dn at least on probes during low pressure storm rain weather too !!
one day of kalk and make fresh daily is only way.
would dripping muriatic also work in iv bag ?
I think we'll be better off if we focused on reducing the pH drop at night ather than increasing the pH high during peak.
Hard-pass, see u next week!
Newbie here... is pH different than Phosphate?
Yes two different things
Pick a salt and stick with it! Shake your bucket/Salt container before every mix! Make sure the parameters and temp match your tanks and do a 5%, percent water change every week. Doing this will give a stable, successful reef environment!
guys are doing 5 per a day on automatic water changes. thats way to do it.
I love rich but dont let him know that
🤣🤣🤣
BEEFFFFFFFFFF
Marc you should try talking with Ryan Cunningham from Chumminghams Reef he’s been on of the big high ph proponents for awhile. Did a few interviews with reefdudes.
I think he’s out the hobby now - at least for the time being
@@ReefingwithO not out just moving. He’s moving from Chicago to somewhere in cali for work so he sold off a bunch of inventory but I remember him saying somewhere he banked a lot with a friend to start back up after the move. So not really out just in between tanks while moving.
@@brenninsreef great to hear! Can’t wait for him to be back!
Does Rich use a filter for the air pump that brings in outside air?
He didn’t say. I’ll ask him though.

This is an awesome sat live!! Entertaining and educational, this is perfection.
Glad you liked it!
@@melevsreef 👏👏good one. i need to chat with both of you guys on different subjects
You're pretty awesome for showing the good, the bad and the ugly of a reef tank. Most people shy away from showing their system's problems and it gives a false impression that newbies are the only ones with issues. I personally have vermetids that have been INFESTING ME. Good luck on the positive changes! And don't be too hard on yourself, sometimes there's good waves in life and at other times a bit of under happens. You're doing an awesome job. Reef on <3
Red cyano RX is good like chemiclean?
Yes, it’s the same thing. I’ve used both, it always works for me.
@@melevsreef two questions for RX red cyano.. 1) how many time before the water change? 2) how much carbon I've to put in the sump after treatment?
@@francescodivincenzo5765 Please go to this link, where I explain how I treat the tank in the description section: shop.melevsreef.com/reefshop/dry-goods/additives-and-solutions/redcyano-rx
@@melevsreef this morning (in Italy) at 8 am I'm at 48 hours.. 95% or more cyanos are disappear... So I've read your link.. I wait tomorrow...if tomorrow are still there.. Another 24 hours.. So you advise max max 96 hours of time.. Then... A new complete doses or half doses or partial dose?
@@francescodivincenzo5765 If you still see some tomorrow, treat the tank again with the same recommended dosage. Then wait 48 hours, and do your water change. For Carbon, use 1/2 cup GAC per 50g of aquarium water, preferably in a reactor.
Blue - green cyno is in freshwater. In saltwater it’s mostly red colored
I still use bioballs because I can put them in QT tanks without them absorbing treatments. I wash them well with bleach and then leave them in my overflow to keep them cycled
What are you heaters plugged into not an eb8,?
They are in an eb-4
Have u tried orca labs nitragard biocubes. You run them with an airstone only. Start working in 7days. These this work great no side effects. Noone talking about them they have been around for years and years. I dont get why no one talks about them
Hi Mark. This is Steve Weast. Its been around 15 years since we talked last. Evan still around ? I was working on my current tank today when I caught your program. Just a point of correction....my old tank was 850 gals....with a 6ft viewing panel and 8 ft from front to back.....30 inches tall. I never replaced all the sand....however...I vacuumed it so often that I had to top off the sand every month or two. As for your nitrate issue, you should consider a sulfur reactor. They are far more user friendly and much more "set it and forget it" compared to a Deltec. I use an Aquamax unit on my current 400 gal reef and it maintains my levels from 5-10. I have the reactor set to allow the tank's nitrate level to slightly increase the tank's over a month or so from 5ppm to 10ppm......so that a typical water change interval then just knocks the tank back to 5ppm. The nitrate level out of the reactor is set to be between 1-2 PPM. Adam Sandler also uses a sulfur reactor....although a monster one...but the simplicity is there.
My tank crashed back in October the first time since I started back in 1987
That’s incredible. Sorry to hear about the crash but what a great run. Nearly 40 years!
feels a tad overstocked on the fish. They look a bit cramped
I don't recommend you use a fogger, it will cover everything with the pesticide and you would have to be extremely cognizant to not, at some point, touch something and transfer it to your tank. IMHO
After 7 years of keeping my fluval 12 Gallon reef going i almost quit few weeks ago, i thought i will not have time for it after moving to a new house and all. But i realized i just spend it on a wrong things. And decided to do a little upgrade instead of getting rid of it.
VEVOR Manual Tile Cutter, 48 inch, Porcelain Ceramic Tile Cutter with Tungsten Carbide Cutting Wheel, Infrared Positioning, Anti-Skid Feet, Double Rails for Professional Installers or Beginners Glass Cutter $149.99 can cut glass tank 200 g 30 w24 5ft
Try ortho home defense the active chemical is bifenthrin and works great on spiders. Knock down all webs/ with broom or circular broom and apply product around perimeter high and low. Be carful with treating up high as it may stain drywall I’d try a spot first but definitely around the baseboards . I do pest control btw or call a professional lol
Thank you.
Could it be detritus in and between the rocks? Maybe more flow or more pumps? Tank still looks great!
Thanks. I don’t think detritus is the problem.
Measure the diameter of the hole you want the sock in. Then leave a half inch extra around the edge. Then sew that circle into the bottom of the filter tube, using the half inch to seam in. Enjoy it brother. Sewing is a must in our lives
Great advice, thanks!
@@melevsreef thank you for all your discussions. I've learned a lot about reefing from you. I hope there is enough materials in that one sock to make the diameter for the bottom. That would be a total win! Cheers
I’d try chipping it out of there!
I have a 300 gallon system (tank and sump). I have a 10 gallon ATO reservoir. I fill it every two days.
